Tetra-O-acetyl-2-acetamido-2-deoxy-β-D-mannose

Manufactured in-house and offered as the beta isomer. It is a readily useable white, pure, crystalline form suitable for large scale syntheses or biological processes. It is often abbreviated to Ac₄ManNAc, Man(OAc)₄NAc, peracetylated mannosamine and tetraacetyl ManNAc.
Mannosamine derivatives have become important reagents in research and development projects associated with derivatives of sialic acid. It has been shown that Ac₄ManNAc is highly bioavailable and does not appear to have any disadvantages in cellular cultures.
